REVIEW: Jessica Jones: The Pulse, The Complete Collection By Brian Michael Bendis

Jessica Jones, retired Avenger and now Private eye, takes a job at the Daily Bugle for a new column for the newspaper called The Pulse. Along with famed columnist Ben Urich, the duo is tasked with reporting on fellow superheroes and report on their activities and other interesting superhero news stories. All while Jessica is expecting a baby.

However, someone is after Jessica and Luke Cage. Will they come out alive? Will Jessica’s baby be healthy? How is S.H.I.E.L.D. involved? Everyone’s favorite superheroes make a cameo in this epic story of action, excitement, and family!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Ben Urich also has his own storyline in this graphic novel. He wants to tell the whole story, no matter the red tape or the lack of interest from his coworkers. His loyalty to Daredevil makes him a good member of the press to have at your side.

This story is awesome! I loved all of the cameos from the Marvel Universe superheroes and supervillains! Jessica Jones is a very relatable character in the fact that she is a new mother. The fact of having superhero parents can make being a parent of a possible baby with superhuman powers terrifying!

This is a big collection of graphic novels. So if you’re not up for a long graphic novel, maybe try one of her shorter graphic novels first. I would suggest the Alias series, or the beginning of the series I reviewed Monday.

REVIEW: Jessica Jones, Vol.1: Uncaged By Brian Michael Bendis

This segment in the Jessica Jones saga follows Jessica as she’s getting released from prison. Soon after, fellow heroes start following her and asking about where her child is. However, she can not say and has to fight them off or run away.

After hearing about Jessica’s release Luke Cage starts tracking her down and asking where their child is. Jessica, being unable to answer him, Luke throws a tantrum and receives some bad press.

When a woman hires Jessica to follow her husband, things go haywire as the wife turns up dead. Not only that, but a mysterious woman kidnaps Jessica and tries to get her to do her bidding.

When the case is seemingly wrapped up, Jessica goes to her mother’s house to bring their daughter home, however, Luke Cage has beaten her there. How will this affect the relationship between Jessica and Luke moving forward?

I enjoyed this graphic novel. I am a fan of Jessica Jones and Luke Cage, they make an odd pairing, but not every couple is “perfect” by society’s standards.

I thought this was a really bittersweet story about how difficult it is to be a parent in a world where the good guys are getting hunted. Jessica had to do what was safe for her daughter at all costs.

I would recommend this book who are looking to get their Jessica Jones fix before season 2 hits! Or even after you binge-watch seasons 1 & 2! It’s not a part of the Netflix series timeline (as far as we know), but it’s still a great read.

Welcome Back to Marvel Week!

Hello guys!

Hope you guys enjoyed DC Comic book week! Reading the Joker-themed graphic novels was amazing and left me stunned and wanting more.

I also hope you enjoyed my review of The Other Side of Midnight by Simone St. James! I wasn’t expecting much from this book, but this book blew me away!

Anyway, on with what the theme for this Marvel week going to be. I was actually panicking a bit because I wanted to do a theme with something that was coming out in March. Then the trailer for Netflix‘s Jessica Jones season 2 dropped. I was saved! It releases on Netflix on March 8th. So I timed it just right!

Anyway, hope you enjoy reading my reviews for Jessica Jones comics to get hyped for season 2! I hear it’s going to be great!

REVIEW: Guardians of the Galaxy: Best Story Ever

Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon and the rest of the Guardians of the Galaxy explode into action in this bombastic prison break! Rocket and Groot team up with old friends to rescue a princess, but will a bounty turn them against one another? Drax battles Thanos and Thor in two classic tales! This is a book full of beginnings of Guardians of the Galaxy stories. Very few stories in this collection were complete. I was disappointed in the way this novel was constructed. I know I usually give a summary first, but this book is so many stories at once, to the point to where it’s difficult for me to make a summary.

I do love Guardians of the Galaxy, both comics and movies. However this comic collection bummed me out.

There was two stories with Rocket Raccoon and Groot as the main characters that had a conclusive ending. I do love Groot, he is a great and lovable character even though he doesn’t say much.

There was also 3 retro comics at the end, one starring Thor. He runs into Drax and Moondragon, and the story involving these seemingly unrelated heroes comes full circle in a way I did not expect.

The other 2 retro comics in this volume were about Thanos, the mad titan. They were both stories about how his reign of terror has gotten to the point where there was no turning back for redemption.

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this graphic novel to anyone unless there’s no other Guardian of the Galaxy graphic novels at the local library. In my opinion, this was a waste of time and money. I only liked it for the stories about Groot and Rocket Raccoon and the stories about Thor and Thanos.

REVIEW: Spider-Gwen, Vol. 2: Weapon of Choice

Gwen’s life is turned upside down after the SPIDER-WOMAN event at the worst time ever as Captain Frank Castle is bearing down on her. Does she stand a chance against Castle’s punishment?

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This action packed comic follows Gwen Stacy as she struggles with the responsibilities of being Spider-Woman and the dangers that come with being a hero in a society that sees heroes as the enemy. While she’s mourning the loss of her friend Peter Parker, Frank Castle is hot on her trail. He’s determined to find out the identity of Spider-Woman and bring her and her associates to justice.

This comic takes place in the alternate universe, Earth-65. So things are different from the comics that take place on Earth-616. I will not spoil how things are different in this story, I will leave that up to you guys to find out.

After the epic plot twist that leaves me thirsty for more, there’s a short story following Gwen and her friends The Mary Janes. It’s Halloween night, and to get their thrills they go to an abandoned amusement park, which was owned by Mysterio, and crazy hi-jinks ensue.

I have been wanting to explore the Spider-Gwen story-line ever since they announced it. However, with me having a temporary burnout on comics, I’m a bit late to the game. No matter, this thrilled me as much as I was hoping it would!

All the characters were well written and well used. I felt like Gwen Stacy was kind of a cardboard character though. I felt like she was only pushed to action when things got dire.

Even with its pros and cons, I still loved this story and its take on an alternate universe where things aren’t as they seem.
