REVIEW: The Way of the Househusband Season 1 on Netflix

This show follows an ex yakuza boss, nicknamed “The Immortal Dragon”, and how his life as a househusband is constantly juxtaposed with his past life in the yakuza in hilarious and entertaining ways.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

This series has been on my radar for awhile now and I originally wanted to read some of the manga first before diving into this show. However with my mental health and my chaotic work schedule things haven’t been easy.

My fiancé and I watched this together and we both enjoyed it. My fiancé loves violence in humorous shows. For example he loves Santa Clarita Diet and this show even though there weren’t any zombies, he seemed to enjoy this show even more.

I think this anime is a great watch if you like humorous anime, slice-of-life anime, or just goofy violence in your shows. Since they announced they’re making a season 2 my fiancé and I are both excited about returning to our favorite househusband and the antics he either finds himself in or those he makes himself.

RAPID REVIEW: Pui Pui Molcar on Netflix

This show is a collection of short stories involving these sentient guinea pig cars. I originally thought they were hamsters, but it was later confirmed in an episode that these are part guinea pig part car/vehicle. There is no voice acting so there is no language/culture barrier to worry about.

This is a show that’s perfect for all ages or even the whole family. It’s also a good palate cleanser for someone who needs something unique and cute that’s pure and innocent.

I would recommend Pui Pui Molcar for fans of Shaun the Sheep and Rilakkuma and Kaoru both are adorable shows with little to no dialogue. Bonus if you enjoy the cloth esthetic that occasionally appears in kids shows.

My Thoughts on The Golden Girls

The Golden Girls is a classic TV show about four friends living together in a home in Miami, Florida. These friends are not hot models, but loveable sarcastic grandmothers. Strong-willed Dorothy, spacey Rose, lusty Southern belle Blanche and matriarch Sophia, Dorothy’s mom, occasionally clash but are there for one another in the end.

I didn’t watch this show growing up. I watched what my parents watched on TV. My dad watched westerns like Gunsmoke and Bonanza. My mom liked watching baseball and tennis. So it wasn’t until my last stay at the mental hospital, that I realized why so many love The Golden Girls.

I binged The Golden Girls on Hulu, and I realized the show hits on several topics that are still relevant to senior citizens today. The discussions of aging, being an independent woman and finding love after the loss of a spouse. Even if you under the age of 40, these issues facing women today can seem daunting.

However, this classic TV show makes me feel bittersweet at points in the show. The Golden Girls sometimes makes me wish I had a better relationship with my grandparents. These issues are something I have been working on both internally through research and deep-thinking, and externally by discussing how I feel with my fiancé.

I think what makes The Golden Girls so predominant to so many is how the characters help their viewers connect to a maternal figure in their life. It helps to grieve as well as keeping you laughing and entertained throughout.

REVIEW: Dorohedoro

In a city so dismal it’s known only as “the Hole,” a clan of Sorcerers has been plucking people off the streets to use as guinea pigs for atrocious “experiments” in the black arts. In a dark alley, Nikaidou found Caiman, a man with a reptile head and a bad case of amnesia. To undo the spell, they’re hunting and killing the Sorcerers in the Hole, hoping that eventually they’ll kill the right one. But when En, the head Sorcerer, gets word of a lizard-man slaughtering his people, he sends a crew of “cleaners” into the Hole, igniting a war between two worlds. – IMDb

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I first saw the trailer for Dorohedoro on Netflix, and I thought it looked interesting. I don’t mind violence or gore in anime, but there is so much more to this anime than meets the eye.

I had so many questions I had no clue what was going on in the beginning. No matter how little I was understanding, I couldn’t stop watching. Even as Caiman and Nikaido explain what goes on in their universe, I had more questions. For example, why does everyone in this world wear a mask when they go out? Is privacy a significant concern in this universe?

Even though I had only minor questions about the world surrounding the characters, I think the writers did a great job handling the mystery surrounding Caiman, but keeping several cards close to their chest for the next season.

Overall, I found Dorohedoro to be a fantastic anime; the characters are great; there is plenty of humor amongst all the violence. I can’t wait to dive back in when Netflix releases season 2.

REVIEW: A Whisker Away on Netflix

A girl falls in love with a boy from her school and transforms into a cat to get close to him. But these choices come with consequences, and eventually, the line dividing cat and human becomes vague.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

This movie is emotionally driven. The main character, Miyo, has had a lot of significant changes going on in her life. Her mother left her and her dad, and when they divorced, Miyo’s dad got remarried. Miyo not only feels like her mom abandoned her, but she feels like no one in her circle is taking her feelings into consideration.

Miyo is in love with her classmate Kento Hinode. Her main goal every day is to make him happy by her goofy antics. She feels life without him is meaningless and worthless. On the outside, Kento doesn’t seem to feel the same way. So, when she finds a mask salesman in the woods during a festival, she purchases a cat mask the salesman tells her will turn her into a cat, and she’ll be able to get closer to Kento. However, things aren’t always what they seem.

A Whisker Away is an excellent movie if you are looking for a feel-good and straightforward story. There is a lot of care and attention put into the writing, and it shows as I got emotional at specific points throughout the film. Overall, I would highly recommend A Whisker Away if you’re a fan of mysticism, light romance, and of course, cats.
